Gordon Bell High School opened the first ever skating rink on the Panther Greenspace on Feb. 3 as part of the campaign to light up the field.
Prior to the opening of the rink, a pep rally was held in the school gym to honour contributors to the Lighting Campaign, including Peter Mikos, Gordon Bell High School alumnus. Mr. Mikos, who is from the company EnduraliteLED, has donated the lights for the field. The school is continuing to fundraise for the remainder of the costs which include poles, wiring, electrical boards etc.
Following the pep rally, Chief Superintendent Pauline Clarke dropped the ceremonial broomball on the skating rink along with Mr. Mikos, WSD Board Chair Mark Wasyliw and MLA Rob Altemeyer.
Students ended the morning with spirited broomball exhibition on the new rink.
