Students and staff at Gordon Bell High School were recently treated to an up close performance from the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.
The WSO visited the school as part of its Up Close and Orchestral program, which brings a full orchestra to local high schools for an entertaining exploration of classical music.
Rock star conductor Alexander Mickelthwate and the massive orchestral sound engaged Gordon Bell students right from the start. A few students even joined in the performance upon Mr. Mickelthwate's invitation, playing the triangle, the ratchet and the cuckoo whistle.
The WSO is hosting a free concert for students on Oct. 31. The Halloween themed performance will include selections from H.K. Gruber's Frankenstein and spooky music from Fantasia. Students interested in attending should contact their school band and music teachers for free tickets.
