Building Department


The Building Department mission is to provide safe, secure and comfortable facilities for students and staff in a cost effective manner that respects the principles of sustainability.

Under the general direction of the Chief Superintendent, the Building Department delivers infrastructure needs of the Division in consultation with senior administration, school administrators and community advisory groups.

 
The physical plant of the Division consists of 87 buildings with approximately 5,130,000 square feet of space of varying vintages and 301 acres of grounds.

The Building Department includes the following groups:

Engineering Group

The Engineering Group provides the following professional services:       
  • Planning
  • Architectural Design
  • Mechanical Engineering Design
  • Electrical Engineering Design
  • Engineering Design Technologist             
  • Project Administration

 

Operations Group

The Operations Group includes over 100 trades persons and support staff responsible for providing daily building maintenance, grounds maintenance and minor construction projects to division buildings and grounds.
 
Custodial services are school based and are not managed by the Building Department.

 

Technical Support Group​

The Technical Support Group provides professional consulting services to both the Engineering and Operations Groups. This group includes:
  • Project and Maintenance Estimation
  • Planned and Preventive Maintenance Programs
  • Energy Management Services

 

Administrative Support Group

The Administrative Support Group is a team that provides the senior administration in the Building Department financial and administrative support. This group includes:
  • Secretary to Director
  • Reception & Filing Clerk
  • Administrative Assistant

 

Funding

Building projects within the division may be funded by internal and capital funds or by the Province of Manitoba Public School Finance Board. All projects are administrated under the general direction of the Board of Trustees.
