PENSION PLAN

The Pension Plan for Officers and Employees (Other Than Teachers) of the Winnipeg School Division was established in 1929 with the main purpose of providing members with lifetime retirement income. The plan is a defined benefit pension plan which means pension income is based on a formula using earnings and service in the plan.

All employees of the Division, other than teachers, are eligible to participate in the WSD Pension Plan. Full time employees must join the pension plan after 3 months of service. The definition of full time for pension purposes is an employee who works 260 days per year at either 7.25 or 8.0 hours per day.

Part time employees can voluntarily enroll in the plan after 3 months of service. Plan participation becomes mandatory for part time employees if income exceeds a certain threshold in 2 consecutive years.

DISABILITY INCOME BENEFITS PLAN

You may apply for WSD Disability Plan benefits if you meet all of the following conditions:

  • You are a non-teaching employee on an authorized medical leave,
  • You are a member of the WSD Pension Plan,
  • You are under age 65, and
  • You have two years of continuous service.
Please note casual employees are not eligible for disability coverage, and any periods of casual employment are not included in the calculation of continuous service.
