There is a combined Physical Education/Health Education Curriculum. This curriculum area focuses on a holistic concept of health and well being.
The health education program in Winnipeg School
Division is based on Manitoba curricula developed and approved by Manitoba
Education and Training.
The goal of the Health Education portion of the combined curriculum is to provide students with programming, which develops knowledge, skills and attitudes for a lifetime of safe, active and healthy living. Student activities throughout the curriculum are geared toward teaching skill development. Particular emphasis is on developing decision-making, problem solving and refusal skills. Students are encouraged and supported to develop health literacy skills. These skills enable students to obtain, interpret and understand health information and services. These are skills students will use to enhance their health throughout their lifetime.
