Hockey Discovery Days

February 8, 2021

Twenty five Harrow grade 5 and 6 students have been selected to participate in the Just Play Hockey Discovery Days program sponsored by Hockey Manitoba.Just Play is a Hockey Manitoba initiative designed to create opportunities for the introduction to hockey in a fun, safe and positive environment while providing sustainable solutions to assist in the promotion and growth of the game across the province. Our students have participated in the program over three full day sessions. The students are picked up at Harrow School and taken to Notre Dame Arena and the MTS IcePlex for on-ice skill development and off- ice activities. Hockey Manitoba has provided full equipment to the participants including skates, helmets, gloves, neck guards and sticks which will be donated to the school and provide skating opportunities to these and other students in the future. Four players from the MJHL Winnipeg Blues hockey organization have been volunteering their time to provide on-ice support to our beginning skaters. A Big THANK YOU to Blues’ defenceman, Ryan Bittner, forwards, Alex Halstensgard and Jake Stilwell and to goalie Mike Newberger for coming out to support our students. The students have also been invited to attend a Blues’ hockey game in December at the MTS Iceplex to cheer on their hockey mentors! We are also excited to announce that the City of Winnipeg is once again providing us with an outdoor ice rink on Harrow school grounds for our students and community to enjoy. Many thanks to Hockey Manitoba and The Winnipeg Blues for providing our students with such an amazing opportunity!
