Arts Enrichment

Carpathia School

Taiko Drumming for Everyone

This project will be supported and led by Phoebe Man, an experienced and professional Taiko performer, educator and storyteller (virtual performance if necessary). Students will construct Taiko Drums which will enrich the school music program and student learning. Safety measures, including physical distancing will be in place if required. Virtual Musical Project
This project will support a virtual connection to the Performing Arts for students. Due to the pandemic, safe distancing and other restrictions, a virtual production will be undertaken whereby students will create, perform and compile other recordings into one performance. Place Based Education

This project involves a visit to Fort Whyte Alive. By extending the classroom to the outdoors, student learning will include daily outdoor challenges, building structures such as forts and tents, and participating in community walks. Learners will bring their experiences back into the classroom, demonstrating their understanding and experiences through writing and story telling. Garden to Table: School and Community Land Based Learning
This project continues the enhancement and beautification of the school and its community and surroundings, particularly with the development and construction of a greenhouse/cold frame to start an early growing season. Student will grow seedlings and transfer to the community garden when the weather is appropriate. Teachers will be able to apply real world connections to school subjects that include Science, Biology, Math and Chemistry. Student learning will incorporate the development of leadership skills, develop new land based initiatives, landscaping skills and other volunteer opportunities. Outdoor Classroom and Green Space
Funding for this project will help develop an outdoor classroom and greenspace for students. The area will also support the Friendship Bench. By providing this space, students will have a safe, inviting and supportive place to meet and reflect. The development of the space will involve work done by the students, teachers and community members. The area will also be surrounded by shrubs, native wildflowers and prairie grasses. Montrose School

Habitats In Our Urban Community
The goal is to immerse students in various natural environments that promote and enhance appreciation and sustainability practices. The students, staff and community of Montrose School practice the Nordic Tradition Friluftsliv (freelooftsliv) which means Free Air Life. Funding will provide the support required to meet the needs of the program, through field trips to places in our community such as Assiniboine Park, Omand’s Creek, Fort Whyte and Oak Hammock Marsh. Fort Whyte Alive Interpreter, Barrett Miller will lead teachers and students with programming, sharing knowledge, learning strategies, and engaging students with the outdoors. Student learning will include Indigenous Education and Perspectives and practicing sustainability. Funding is Fee for Service/Performances.

This project will support student skill development in various outdoor activities. It has been observed that the benefits of physical activity have a positive impact on student learning. Foresthood Program through Momenta Winnipeg
This project provides students an opportunity to discover, work together and become stewards of the land. Foresthood connects students to nature through repeated visits to an outdoor space within walking distance of the school. Facilitators from Momenta will meet with students and teachers at an outdoor space over a six week period. Observations of the surroundings and curiosities of the students, will create an inquirybased project. Opportunities for creativity, collaboration and communication will be fostered through various learning and problem solving tasks. Funding is Fee for Service/Performances.

This project supports Social Studies and Physical Education curriculums on an on-going basis. The Mother's Project - A Career Trek Program for Adolescent Parents
Career Trek Inc. is a not-for-profit organization and registered charity that helps young people discover the importance of education and career development by providing career oriented programming in educational settings across Manitoba. Through the Career Trek Program, parenting teens in Grades 11 and 12 will be introduced to postsecondary education, faculties, courses and careers. The program focuses on career explorations and planning, as well as personal development and goal setting. Funding for this project will support the Fee for Service for presentations made by Career Trek Inc.

Funding for this project will provide an opportunity for a group of students in Grades 1-3, to participate in Yoga for Kids. The program uses a multi-sensory approach to teaching children. Pet Empathy/Pet Therapy
This project supports two programs. The Pet Empathy program is a fivepart workshop series where students will interact with a (Winnipeg Humane Society) behaviour assessed dog that will help foster a better understanding of empathy towards animals and people. The Pet Therapy program is an animal-assisted pet therapy using (Winnipeg Humane Society) behaviour assessed dog, that will help students with physical, mental, and behaviour needs to make closer connections with animals and peers. The series of workshops will be facilitated by professionals but will also have the services of the school clinician to reinforce skills and improve long term outcomes.
