Student Supports

Resource:

Resource teachers are responsible for the assessment, programming, and direct service for students with special needs. They consult and collaborate with teachers, parents, Child Support Services and other agencies. Resource teacher assistants provide direct support to students both in the classroom and individually. 

Integrated Special Education:

Special education students are integrated into classrooms with the support of the Resource teacher and the Resource teacher assistant. Adapted Educational Plans and Individual Educational Plans are developed for students who require further adult support in the classroom.

Comprehensive Assessment: 

Division-wide assessment in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Social/Emotional Development and Basic Movement is administered in the fall to all Nursery - Grade 6 students.

Screenings:

The Division provides screenings each school year for vision, hearing, school readiness, basic motor skills, as well as speech and language.

Child Support Services:

Child Support Services provides further assessment and programming support in the following areas: 


  • Reading: reading, writing, and comprehension
  • Speech and Language: speech, language and hearing
  • Social Worker: social/emotional and family connection
  • Psychologist: social/emotional and psychological 



School Therapy Services:

School Therapy Services are provided to students who require the following:


  • Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy
  • Support for hearing and visual difficulties
