Patrols

February 8, 2021

Patrolling in Canada was first organized in 1936 by Louise Staples, a teacher at Greenway School, several months before being implemented on a city-wide basis.

The Division continues to support patrols through a variety of initiatives, in partnership with the Winnipeg Police Service, CAA Manitoba and Manitoba Public Insurance.

  • On-site patrol training sessions are provided to all elementary schools by the Winnipeg Police Service patrol constables in June or September.
  • Schools are supplied with bright green vests, flags and raincoats for the student patrols.  Funds are allocated to schools to support patrol activities througout the year.  Recognition pins are provided to all graduating patrols by the Board of Trustees.
  • First-place school patrol squads are honored at the annual School Board Patrol Reception..  Students and patrol supervisors from the winning squads are presented with engraved plaques from each District.
