Multi Cultural & Cultural

Churchill High School

The project will provide students the opportunity to create and play Indigenous Hand-Drums. The CHS Indigenous Student Group is a student-d riven organization  dedicated to raising awareness and educating students, staff and community members of issues, related to Indigenous Peoples of Canada. Drum Kits will be purchased, and a drum-maker will be invited to instruct students. Funding is Artists' Fees/Guest Speaker, Supplies not available in school.

Dufferin School

The project will provide an opportunity for "newcomers" to the community to meet and establish relationships, create (hands-on Grafting) at the school, and provide an opportunity to meet the Dufferin School staff and other community agency staff. The project also provides an opportunity to enhance relationship building between parents and children through reative Grafting. Funding is Fee for Service/Perfonnance, Supplies not available in school, Film & Developing.

Faraday School

The project will provide students the opportunity to learn the indigenous Peoples drumming traditions, songs and the meaning of drumming. Students will practice drumming during the first term of he school year and participate in the PowWow Club in the second term. Funding is for Fee for Service/Performance.

Kent Road School

Students will be exposed to varied cultural perspectives in relation to the history of Manitoba. Students will link their social studies explorations to hands-on activities available through the school program at Festival du Voyageur. unding is Student Admissions and Registration costs.

Norquay School

The project will provide an opportunity for students to create and develop an understanding of traditional hoop dancing. Instruction will include the building of hoops, the tradition, the cutlure and the practice of hoop dancing, and students will learn hoop dancing echniques. A school-wide performance will complete the project. Funding is Artist's Fees/Guest Speaker, Fee for ervice/Performance, and Supplies not available in school.

Stanley Knowles School

Students will learn about animals and legends from Northern Canada. The students will animate he characters through storytelling, puppetry and song, becoming storyteliers themselves. Les Contes du Nord is an interactive storytelling workshop for grades K-6 Francais, Immersion or Core French Programs. Flammeche Theatre uses storytelling and puppetry to create workshops, educational resources and shows. Funding is Artist's Fee/Guest Speaker.

Champlain

The project will increase students' home reading participation. This year Champlain Schoof has taken a school-wide approach and has set a challenge to all students to take part in reading. As role models, staff have joined the challenge. Students are recognized as they meet their personal goals. Funding is supplies not available in school.

David Livingstone School

The project will assist with providing "Yoga for Kids" to the students at David Livingstone School who have a wide range of developmental needs. The program uses a multisensory teaching technique that will improve fitness levels, and help with body awareness, stress management, self-regulation, and other needs. Funding is Fee for Service/Perfonnances.

King Edward School

The project will promote mental health strategies, wellness, positive relationships, and self confidence in students. Through weekly lunches and community outings, students will develop mental health and wellness strategies to promote increased self-esteem and selfefficacy. The project will provide students will skills to develop positive strategies in building relationships, problem solving, collaboration and team work. The project will provide physical education to students outside normal school programming, the opportunity to develop and practice skills in the sport of tennis, Students will also have an opportunity to learn team building skills and an opportunity to build positive relationships. Niji Mahkwa School

The project will enable students to increase their awareness and expand their knowledge of literacy works. Together students and parents will develop leadership skills, and students will continue to work with Elders and continue to build connections with the community, A homework club will continue in the "Learning Nest". Parents and guardians are encouraged to participate in their children's learning. Funding is Student Admissions/Registrations, Artists' Fees/Guest Speakers, Fee for Servjce/Perfomnances, Supplies not available in school, Film & Developing.

Woiseley School

The project will enable Wolseley School to create and develop a Literacy Lab of levelled books for staff to draw from when implementing Literacy Groups, Guided Reading and Daily 5. Staff are focusing on the ELA Curriculum as well as enhancing the Tier 1 Reading and Writing Inten/entions. unding is Home Reading and Book Lending.

Meadows West School

The project will allow the school to hire a company and re-surface the basketball court. Currently the basketball court is unsafe. The Director of Buildings is involved with this project. The project has been approved by the CHF Committee under the deferred Playgound Improvement Projects Category.

Faraday School

This project will provide a safe and comfortable outdoor environment area for students and the community, and will encourage physical activity. Funding is Playstructure/Ground/Field improvement projects. This project was originally submitted in January 2017 and derod to the October 10, 2017 CHF Committee Meeting. The CHF Committee has approved this project under deferred Playground Improvements Category. The CHF Committee has approved funds in the amount of $20,000. Funding is Playground Improvements.
