Welcome to Room 210- Grade 3/4/5

Ms. Pimentel

I look forward to working together with you and your child to make it an exciting year of learning! My goal for this year is to create a learning environment that is full of exploration, inquiry and discovery.

Math: Students will develop their knowledge and understanding of number sense, mental math strategies, patterns and relations, shape and space, and statistics and probability. This will be done through whole group, small group, and individual instruction, hands on learning, one to one conferencing, and math skill practice that includes use of technology.

English Language Arts (ELA): Our ELA program will include the CAFÉ program (comprehension, accuracy, fluency, expanded vocabulary) and Daily 5 (Read to Self, Read to Someone, Work on Writing, Word Work, Listen to Reading). This will allow the students to have consistent practice to improve and develop their reading and writing skills. We will also explore various novels on an individual basis, as well as a whole class.

Science: Students will focus on developing their scientific knowledge through  inquiry and the design process. These skills will develop through asking questions, making predictions and researching, to name a few.

Social Studies: Through inquiry, research skills and methods, students will develop an understanding about citizenship, how to manage information and ideas, communication, as well as use critical and creative thinking.

Health: Students will develop the knowledge, skills and understanding for physically active and healthy lifestyles.

Assessment: Assessment will be ongoing throughout the school year. Winnipeg School Division's Elementary Assessment Program (EAP) will support me to know your child's academic abilities. Evaluation of their progress will be based upon formal assessment (F&P benchmarks, Math Learning Pathway), learning logs, self-reflection, projects, work samples, and both written, verbal and visual communication.

Classroom Expectations: In connection with our school guidelines, our classroom will follow our Pinkham C.A.R.E. principles, as well as our agreement that was created and signed by the students of Room 210. Everyone is expected to respect and care for each other because we are a team!

I look forward to having a year filled with success, taking risks, learning and fun with you child. Please feel free to contact me anytime at (204)786-5749 or
