Roots of Empathy

The grades 5/6 students in Room 210 are participating in this program which teaches children about feelings, their own feelings and the feelings of others. Ms. Melvin and baby Max visit the classroom every three weeks and students observe the baby and read the cues the baby gives as to how the baby is feeling.  Students then use this discussion to talk about their own emotions and to understand how their classmates feel. Ms. Barnett, our Resource Teacher, visits the classroom before each visit to prepare and reinforce teachings using a specialized lesson plan.
