Roots of Empathy
July 20, 2022
Roots of Empathy is a program that teaches children about feelings, their own feelings and the feelings of others. Being able to understand how other people are feeling is called empathy.
Once every 3 weeks Ms. Melvin and baby Max will visit Room 210 and students will watch baby Max grow over the school year. Students will observe the baby and read the cues the baby gives as to how the baby is feeling. Students will use this discussion to talk about their own emotions and to understand how their classmates feel. Before and after each visit, Ms. Barnett, the school's resource teacher, will visit the class to prepare and reinforce teachings using a specialized lesson plan.
