Clifton School Advanced Bells performed Bel Canto at the 20th Anniversary Spring Fling at the Manitoba Legislative Building on May 4, 2013. They accompanied the Women of Note Massed Choir.
The students at Clifton began playing bells in 2007, but at that time, had to borrow the bells from other schools. In 2008, the school was awarded a ten thousand dollar grant from MusicCounts that allowed us to purchase our own three-octave set. The Parent Advisory Council has helped to purchase tone chimes. The students are now passionate about playing handbells and tone chimes.
The Advanced Bells are one of four extra-curricular groups conducted by our music teacher, Lori Bodner. The groups have played in a variety of places, including personal care homes, at banquets, assemblies, and the annual Spring Ring, a concert featuring handbell groups from around Manitoba. Congratulations to the grade 5 and 6 students, aged 10 and 11 who include: Grabrielle, Crystal, Stephen, Arif, Danny, TJ, Linh, Jovinelle, Mickayla, Dan, Jimmy and Danica.
