Cool 2Be Kind 2015

Clifton students and staff were thrilled to have been chosen to host the launch of the third annual Cool 2Be Kind campaign. This anti-bullying program focuses on the positive and promotes kindness as a way of being “cool”. We wish to thank all the police officers who use their off duty time to spread the message of kindness and the dangers of bullying throughout Winnipeg.
Our gym was packed with off duty police officers, honoured guests, sponsors of the program, the media and students from other schools. The MC for the event was Ace Burpee, from 103.1 Virgin Radio. We would like to thank him for all the great things he has been saying about Clifton School. Honourary Co-Chairs for the third annual Cool 2Be Kind Program City Councillor John Orlikow and City Councillor Cindy Gilroy, and the President of the Winnipeg Police Association, Maurice Sabourin spoke to the students about the value of being kind.
We were very proud of our students who helped prepare for the event, greeted visitors and showed such great listening skills throughout the special assembly. They showed that they are all “Clifton Kids”. We received a $500.00 grant from the Winnipeg Police Association last year to buy books on kindness for each classroom. We celebrated acts of kindness by using the concepts from the How Full is Your Bucket books written by Carol McCloud. Two of our students showed great courage and confidence as they shared our story of “Bucket Filling” with the audience of over 200 people. Imagine doing that when you were 10 and 11 years old!
After the presentation all students received a Cool 2Be Kind sticker and bracelet to remind them to be kind at school, home and throughout the community. They were all treated to milk, granola bars and apple slices from McDonald’s, another sponsor of this program. Many thanks to Bob Holliday from the Winnipeg Police Association for sharing his great photographs and Jim Bender from the Winnipeg Sun for his kind words.
We are continuing with the Bucket Filling campaign throughout the month of February. Watch and listen for all the kind words and actions by Clifton Kids and staff that will be highlighted this month. There will be a bucket in the main office if families wish to share their kind words with the school.
