Reading Recovery is a highly effective early literacy intervention program for Grade One students who are experiencing difficulty with reading and writing. Through an individualized one on one tutorial with a certified Reading Recovery teacher, students receive a thirty minute lesson each school day for 12-20 weeks, in addition to regular classroom instruction. Students are discontinued from the program when they reach grade level expectations, and are able to be successful in the classroom. Reading Recovery is designed to build on students' strengths and encourages success and independence which increases students' self-esteem. Reading Recovery was developed in New Zealand by Dr. Marie Clay. It is currently being implemented in Australia, New Zealand, the United States of America, Great Britain and Canada.
