 JV Football Returns to Churchill

The last time that the Churchill Bulldogs had a JV football program some of the current players were just graduating from kindergarten or maybe grade 1.  The Bulldogs had a very successful 9 man JV program as they went undefeated in the 2007 & 2008 seasons winning back to back championships.  Following those years the number of students declined and the program went through a few changes and growing pains.

Now, in 2016, the program is once again in a great spot and on its way up.  There has been once again an influx of younger students on both the French and English side of the school and there are many young student athletes taking part in many school sports.  This has resulted in what has begun a rejuvenation of the JV Football Program.  We thank Mr. Medeiros who has stepped up as the JV Football Head Coach.

This first week of May is our second week of practice and as the offensive coordinator and assistant head coach I couldn't be more pleased with the team's progression so far.  We had 16 players show up to our first practice, which is a decent number for 9 man football although the popularity has grown like wild fire since.  The numbers have consistently been in the low 20s for every practice since, despite soccer and other activities happening at this time of year and new players continue to sign up.  I predict that by the time our scrimmage vs Sturgeon Heights comes around on the evening of Friday, May 6th we will have 30 players suited up and ready to rock the field.

Many of the players are first timers although there are several veterans from other programs and the group is led by veteran Bulldog and last year's varsity surprise, Jose Robinson.

There is a lot of excitement revolving around the Bulldogs JV Program 2016 season as we wind up spring camp. The future of the program in general looks very promising as a JV program adds immense potential to the Varsity program which continues to build year after year.

Regular season football camp will begin in August, 2 weeks before school begins and it is not mandatory to have participated in spring camp to play in the regular season.  If you are interested in joining the program please talk to coach Medeiros or myself, Coach Sylvestre.

Varsity spring camp begins on Monday, May 9th.  All the best to both football programs and all the Bulldog student athletes who are going strong with 4 soccer teams, 2 rugby teams, the golf and track and field teams.  Thanks once again to all the coaches and volunteers that make the magic happen!  Without you, none of this would be possible.

GO DAWGS!!!
