Computer Science

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

compscience.jpgComputer science is a course where students learn how to program using languages such as Visual Basic and Java. Using those languages, students will program video games, websites, and other fun and user-interactive programs.  

In grades 11 and 12 students will begin to learn some app design for Apple (iPhone, iPad) and Android devices.  If you like programming, problem solving and technology this is the program for you.


COURSES

COMPUTER SCIENCE 20S | COSR2S – 1 CREDIT

In this course students learn all the basics of programming using the Visual Basic language.  Students are introduced to basic game design and how to use the basics of the language to make fun and interactive video games.  Students will also create a video game from the design to programming stage as their term project.


COMPUTER SCIENCE 30S | COSR3S – 1 CREDIT

In this course students continue with the Visual Basic language are introduced to the Java programming language.  They learn to work in groups to create more complex programs such as retro video games like Pac Man, Pong, Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat.

In this course, students are exposed to some beginner app design concepts as well to prepare for grade 12.


COMPUTER SCIENCE 40S | COSR4S – 1 CREDIT

In this course, students begin using their programming knowledge to make fully functional web sites and apps.  Students will continue with Java and Visual Basic to create video games that are comparable to the ones on the market. Students in the course are expected to be serious about taking computer science in university.
