Fashion Design

FASHION AND DESIGN PRODUCTION 20G | CHDR2G - 1 CREDIT

Experiment with a basic commercial patterns and create an appealing textile design to fit needs, wants, and budget.  Students explore the pattern symbols and fabric parts and study how the two work together in creating a garment.  Principles and elements of design are applied in selecting a major textile project.  Through sewing construction, students develop skills in zipper, buttonhole, and shaping fabric applications.  Students learn to modify a commercial pattern to meet personal fit.  It is always fun to personalize a fashion project with the use of the computerized embroidery machine.  Investigate textile design techniques through cross stitch embroidery, batik, beadwork, and knitting or tie dying. The created item may be displayed in the school fashion show.

FASHION AND PATTERN DESIGN 30G | CHDR3G - 1 CREDIT

Interested in creating your own fashion design? This course is for you!  This is a perfect opportunity to put your creative juices into a fashion design sketch and incorporate color, proportion and texture into a fashion design piece.   After the sketching stage students start with a basic flat pattern and experiment with adjusting a pattern to match the original design sketch.  On this journey students will master construction of gathers, darts, tucks, invisible zipper applications and more.  Fashion design exposes you to intermediate sewing skill levels in commercial patterns.  The created fashion item may be displayed in the school fashion show.

ADVANCED FASHION DESIGN 40S/G | CHDR4S/G - 1 CREDIT

Sky's the limit... students will have the opportunity to develop designs that fit their needs, wants, budget and creative expression.  Advanced skills in pattern design are offered, exposing students to flat pattern construction, along with commercial pattern options. Student pattern choices may range from graduation dresses, coats /jackets to flattering shirts/tops, pants, bags or other textile items.  You will have the opportunity to shine in the spotlight by entering your creations in the DMCI fashion show.  Also, students will have the option to take on a directing role in the school fashion show. 4S is a recognized university entrance course.
