FOODS AND NUTRITION 20G | FONR2G - 1 CREDIT

foods1.jpgWelcome to the Foods & Nutrition program at DMCI. This course develops your hands-on skills in food preparation while examining your nutritional needs.  When you select this course you will be able to examine the effects of food and the energy nutrients they contain on your health. Learn to make good food choices by improving your ability to understand, evaluate and use food label information.  Food labs will relate to the nutrition topics being explored in class as well as the development of food preparation techniques.

FOODS AND NUTRITION 30G | FONR3G – 1 CREDIT

This course allows you to gain information on topics such as wellness and lifestyle choices in the area of food selection and preparation throughout the life cycle.  Increase your knowledge on topics such as food borne illnesses, drink choices, vitamin supplements, vegetarianism and heart health to improve the quality of life for yourself and your family. The influence of current research as well as culture on personal food selection will be examined.  This course helps provide you with the necessary skills to plan meals and prepare a variety of foods. 

FOODS AND NUTRITION 40S/G | FONr4S/G – 1 CREDIT

foods2.jpgHere is your opportunity to travel through various regions in the world to develop new talents in planning, preparing and serving meals that reflect different cultures.  In your travels you will select recipes and experience new culinary skills that are typical of other parts of the world.  You will explore current and ongoing food related issues: food borne illnesses; energy nutrient sources and digestion; diabetes and celiac disease; cholesterol and heart disease; acrylamides and antioxidants; North American Vitamin D deficiency and more. On your journey you can make a difference!  You can help identify critical ways of resolving world hunger problems and accept some responsibility to act.   At the end of your journey examine career opportunities in food science, food business, industrial food services and dietetics.  Note: the 4S grade 12 is recognized as a university entrance course.
