Welcome to Room 16!

Mr. J. Gillespie

I would like to welcome everybody back to David Livingstone School.  I hope that your summer was restful.  I am looking forward to the upcoming school year!

Assessment:
This will be based on daily classroom work, research projects, group work, presentations, tests, exams and the Fountas and Pinnell reading assessment.

Classroom rules:
There are 3 rules in the classroom:

1.    Respectful to others
2.    Responsible behaviour
3.    Raise your hand

Curriculum Overview:

a) Mathematics:
-Number Sense
-Shape and Space
-Statistics and Probability
-Patterns and Relations
-Problem Solving
b) Science:
-Particle Theory of Matter
-Fluids
-Optics
-Water Systems
c) Language Arts
Mrs. Baker in room 18 will be teaching Language Arts to the students in room 16 this year.
d) Social Studies:
Mrs. Baker in room 18 will be teaching Social Studies to the students in room 16 this year.
e) Health:
-Personal Safety
-Drug Education
-Bullying
-Family Life
f) Art:
Art will be integrated throughout the year within the core subject areas.
g) Physical Education
Students will have program planning done by the Physical Education teacher.
h) Practical Arts (shops)
Students will attend Niji Makwa for the entire afternoon on every Day 3 of the school cycle.  Some of the subject areas they will learn about include: Woodworking, Graphic Arts, Electronics and Home Economics.  Students will be dismissed right from shops at the end of the day.
