Welcome here

To Elmwood students and their families,

Welcome to start of a new school year. I hope you had an active, healthy summer and were able to enjoy time with family and friends, accomplish a few things and help others.

The Elmwood staff will help your sons and daughters build upon their skills, knowledge and attitudes in all kinds of areas so that they are able to open as many doors as possible along their life’s journey. I would like to thank the staff for their tremendous efforts to provide our students with such a wide range of opportunities in which they can take part. A wide array of experiences can be so enriching and rewarding.

A major belief in our school is that Heart + Mind + Effort = SUCCESS, so we encourage students to apply themselves and make their best effort possible, so that they are able to get to where they would like to be.  A good phrase to consider is, “What have I done today, to reach my dream tomorrow.” We will work with your family and will do our best to help your son/daughter move forward and pursue their interests.

I would like to invite parents/guardians to join our Parent Council – the first meeting is Wednesday September 19 at 7:00 pm in the Library following the Middle Years Meet the Teacher get-together that runs from 5:30 – 7:00. Our Parent Council has ranged in numbers, but has always provided great support to the school.

Last year the Parent Council accessed grants to upgrade the laptops in our computer carts. In the past they have helped to access funds to get our track built and field upgraded - a $384,000 project, funded our outdoor basketball court and were leaders in bringing the School Resource Officer program to the Elmwood community. Thank you to Ms. Hupe for the leadership she provided in her role as the Chair of Parent Council over the past two years. The input of the parent/guardians who attended meetings into things like school goals, school budgets and future directions were greatly appreciated.

I wish you all the best this year.

Sincerely,
