Key to the Forest
This summer, Elmwood student Mishelle, had an
opportunity to attend the KEY to the
Forest Program hosted by Manitoba Model Forest. Mishelle travelled to Shoe
Lake in Nopiming Provincial Park where she camped out with a team of students
and biologists for five nights. Participants took part in a variety of
activities including a hike on Ancient Mountains Trail, canoeing, swimming at
Black Lake, a visit to the local sawmill, and fishing. Among enjoying the great
outdoors, Mishelle got a hands- on experience as a conservationist; learning
how to geo-cache, conduct telemetry studies, track caribou, identify fish and
macro-invertebrate, and retrieve gill nets.
