Elmwood High School’s Aboriginal Leadership is a student lead mentorship
and support counsel. Leadership students welcome all Aboriginal and non
Aboriginal people, who want to work together to learn about local Aboriginal
culture. Students meet on a weekly basis, where Aboriginal history and current
topics are discussed. Guest speakers and Elders are invited to share Aboriginal
knowledge. The group also works hard at supporting students who are new to the city and our senior high students mentor our middle year’s students. The senior high students felt creating a mosaic would benefit all students by giving them a chance to learn about our Aboriginal heritage and proudly express that learning through art. Now that the physical project is complete. We will continue to learn together as we prepare and go to a sweat lodge. We are also going to host a traditional closing ceremony where funders, students and their parents and guardians will be invited to attend.
