Music Program Grades 1-3

The music program consists of:

• music games and activities that developunderstanding of the key musical concepts: beat, rhythm, melody, harmony, form and tone colour

• speech, song, movement and playing Orff instruments to support the learning of the musical concepts

• developing an understanding of simple written notation focusing on reading and writing simple rhythmic and melodic patterns

• listening activites that explore a variety of music from various cultures, time periods and by well-known composers

• creating, performing and reflecting on music created by the students

Music Program for Grades 4-6

The music program consists of:

• music games and activities that develop understanding of the key musical concepts: beat, rhythm, melody, harmony, form and tone colour 


• speech, song, movement and playing Orff instruments to support the learning of the musical concepts


• further developing and understanding of written music notation focusing on reading and writing more complex music


• listening activites that explore a variety of music from various cultures, time periods and by well-known composers


• learning about a variety of different instruments with a focus on the orchestral instruments


• creating, performing and reflecting on music created by the students


• keeping a musical portfolio consisting of the work done in music class
