Volunteer Reading Program

Harrow school is pleased to announce a new volunteer reading partnership with volunteers from Bethel Place and Bethel Mennonite Church.
Students will be selected to participate in this weekly program which is designed to support their reading comprehension and development. Within a one-to-one relationship (child and volunteer) the student will be given an opportunity to read to the volunteer and to also listen to stories being read by the volunteer.
The program will run
Date:  Wednesdays beginning Nov.6th, 2013
Time: 2:45 – 3:15 pm
Place:  Bethel Mennonite Church

Harrow students and a staff member will walk to Bethel Mennonite Church every Wednesday following afternoon recess for a 30 minute shared reading session with their assigned volunteer. Harrow students will be supervised by a Harrow staff member on site during these sessions.
Each volunteer has completed  a screening process through the Winnipeg School Division and attended a training session to ensure alignment with our learning outcomes. Books and materials will be provided by the school according to the child’s reading levels and learning targets. Volunteers must maintain confidentiality and not disclose the identity of the child they are working with.

If you have any questions about the program please do not hesitate to call me at the school at 204-453-3347
