The Student Council representatives are elected by each of the homerooms. These representatives, from each class, the president, vice-president, and the secretary-treasurer form the body of the Student Council.
The Student Council executives are elected by the entire school population from the Grade 8 students who are running for those positions.
The role of the Student Council is to organize the various student activities for the year, arrange for the participation of the student population in one or two of the humanitarian events such as raising funds for the telethon, Children’s Hospital research, etc.. The Student Council works with the teachers who act as advisors. The Student Council executive also form part of the Hugh John Macdonald Parent/Teacher student committee.
