The parent centre provides a wonderful opportunity for people of various ages and backgrounds to share their time and talents for the benefit of the children in our school. There is a strong sense of home-school-community here.
Parents, children, grandparents and volunteers solve many parenting challenges while working together. Ideas are exchanged and coping skills are introduced. Families help families and friendships are formed here as we cook, quilt, craft & exercise in a warm and caring environment.
School personnel and outside community resources help to provide information on child development issues.
Contents of the room include adult and child-sized tables and chairs, a couch, book racks, age appropriate books and toys and a stove and fridge. Coffee and tea is available for volunteers. Research demonstrates that children who have interested, involved parents who value learning have a significantly greater chance of being successful at school; readiness to learn is a critical factor in determining the success of children entering the school system; and patnerships between schools, families and the community improve children's academic success.
