We are quickly approaching the end of the school year, which means that exams are upon us. Students in grade 7 ELA will write their exam on the mornings of June 7 and 8, 2016. It will focus primarily on reading and writing. Students in this class are well prepared for this challenge but should continue to work hard in the coming weeks as they practice their skills in this subject.
Term 3 will see students continue their focus on The End of The World as we take a closer look at Life Beyond Earth (AKA UFOs) and Global Pandemics (AKA Zombies). Students will develop their skills as readers by utilizing the Fab 4 strategies - predicting, summarizing, questioning and clarifying - to improve comprehension abilities, while also learning to how write proper five paragraph essays with emphasis on a specific topic.
Also, we are proud to announce that Ms. Zeltins, a teacher candidate from the University of Winnipeg will be joining this class full time on March 21 where she will teach unti the end of April.
Students in Mr. Liewicki's grade 7 English class will focus on a variety of reading strategies (QAR, Fab 4) and styles of writing (narrative, descriptive, persuasive, research) with a particular emphasis on "End of The World" type scenarios, texts and novels. The goal of this course is to provide students with countless opportunities to learn and develop skills in this subject while being engaged by a high interest topic that is relevant in today's world. In writing, the execution of a detailed and well thought out five paragraph essay will be the main goal. Students will also read at least one novel per term and complete an accompanying novel study and final project.
