Guidance Counsellor Room 23 Ms Donald

Welcome!
Welcome to everyone from guidance! My name is Megan Donald and I am the guidance counsellor at Isaac Newton School. All students are able to request to meet with me by filling out a guidance request form, available from your teacher or in room 23. I am able to help with problems related to school, home, friends and whatever else comes up. Parents are also encouraged to contact me with any concerns they have regarding their children. I have information on community resources related to mental health and wellness.

Roots of Empathy:

Welcome to Baby Quentin and his mom, who will be joining Mr. Liewicki’s grade 7 homeroom for the Roots of Empathy (ROE) program this year. ROE is a fantastic program which focuses on childhood development, understanding emotions and individuality. Once every three weeks or so, Baby Quentin and his mom will visit the homeroom. The class will observe and interact with Baby Quentin as he grows and changes throughout the year, and will engage in lessons before each visit to prepare for and reinforce the teachings of the visit. The program will be instructed by Ms. Donald and Ms. Marcyniuk. For more information on the Roots of Empathy program, please visit www.rootsofempathy.org/.

Social Justice Club:

All students are encouraged to join myself and Mr. Liewicki for this year’s Social Justice Club, where we will work together to improve the conditions in our local and global communities. Listen to announcements for upcoming meetings. The first cause we will be addressing will be the Because I am a Girl campaign. The United Nations Day of the Girl is October 11th, 2014. Students please keep your eyes and ears open for announcements regarding an upcoming Pink Lemon-Aid fundraiser for Because I am a Girl, brought to you by the Social Justice Club. This campaign aims to focus on the importance of girls and education, an issue that is of huge impact both globally and locally. For more information on Because I am a Girl, please visit www.becauseiamagirl.ca.
