February’s Everybody Has the Right theme was about kindness. Kindness and generosity were certainly at the forefront of a
very special event at École J.B. Mitchell School on February 9, 2016. This was the day Lily along with her brother Noah
and her parents presented a very special gi/ to a very special little boy, Ryder.
Ryder was presented with a bicycle designed and built just for him from Freedom Concepts. Lily and her family undertook
a fundraising campaign with all the proceeds going to the bike funds. Friends, Leanne Horn (RBC), Chris Schollenberg (The
Children’s Rehabilitation foundation), Ken Vanstraelen (Freedom Concepts), Julia Knox, Chris Penner were able to
bring Ryder Smith a brand new bike much sooner than expected thanks to the generosity of many!
Lily wanted Ryder to have a bike just for him, since he had never had one of his own so she set out to get him his one.
The bike required some specific design and Lily made sure it has some fun details too! Lily set a goal of $4800 and within
10 days she had raised that and then some. Lily held a Christmas bake sale, colleagues from her parents work donated
and a few groups came together and made significant donations.
Just after Christmas we were able to order Ryder his
Ryder is so happy to have his bike. His mom tells us he loves biking and the smile we saw on his face when you got on his
bike made it that much more special to all of us!
