Asian Heritage Symposium
Pacific Studies scholars from grades 9 through 12 participated in the 4th
annual Asian Heritage High School Symposium at the University of
Winnipeg. The Symposium was organized by the Asian Heritage Society of Manitoba
and featured speakers and workshops highlighting the professional and cultural
contributions Asian Canadians have made to our cultural mosaic. Kelvin students
heard from leaders in the field of medicine, architecture, film-making,
nutrition and management, and took part in taiko drumming, henna tattoo art,
anime, and K ("Korean") pop dance workshops, among others.
schools in attendance have thriving Asian cultural extracurricular groups;
Kelvin is the only school in Manitoba offering credit courses in Asian
geography, politics, language and cultures. Students in grades 9 through 12 are
eligible to register for Asia Pacific Studies the 2014-15 school year; contact
your Guidance Counsellor or firstname.lastname@example.org for details.
