New York, New York

A Musical Adventure in the Big Apple

Last spring, the Kelvin Choir was asked to audition for the opportunity to sing in Carnegie Hall.  Thrilled by the opportunity to sing in the renowned hall in New York City, Kim Brown (choir director at Kelvin High School) and the choir prepared a DVD for the audition.  “The opportunity would be amazing, even if only a handful of students can go,” she said excitedly.

The choir received the official invitation in June, and the travel arrangements began.  There was a great response and the end result was thirty four students and 3 teachers landing in La Guardia Airport on April 10, 2014.  “I never expected so many to come,” Brown said.

With matching Kelvin Performing Arts jackets, the Kelvin Choir walked into rehearsal and had the honour of working with Grammy Award winning composer Christopher Tin, as well as the pleasure of meeting young adults from other choirs in the United States.  The choir then performed with acclaimed artists from around the world in Carnegie Hall.

The group saw Matilda on Broadway, and Madama Butterfly at the Met, and experienced other New York attractions such as the Empire State Building, the Metropolitan Museum of Arts, and Central Park.

It was truly an experience that will never be forgotten.
