Election Forum 2015
Over 120 Kelvin students took part in an Election Forum on September 29th, featuring candidates in the upcoming Federal Election campaign. The panelists included Jim Carr (Liberal), Matt Henderson (New Democrat), and Andrew Park (Green). All of Kelvin's Immersion française & English academic first semester Grade 9 "Canada in the Contemporary World" students heard the candidates present their views and answer questions from those present, who also included numerous Grade 11 (Canadian History) and Grade 12 (World Issues) scholars along with representatives from student activists groups such as HASTA (Hopeful, Aware Students Taking Action) and the Environmental Action Committee.
All of the candidates present (Conservative Joyce Bateman declined the invitation, due to schedule conflicts) exhorted these future voters to take an active interest in their communities and their country. Questions ranged from Canada's role in the world, to poverty, to the Shoal Lake 40 First Nation and their Freedom Road campaign. All Kelvin students will be eligible to take part in Student Vote 2015 on October 19th, when they will cast their ballots for the political party of their choice and compare their results with those of the nation. Special thanks go out to student moderators Andréa Rondeau-Brown, Elijah Dietrich and Diana Ebadi.
