Minister of Science

Kelvin students were invited to share their research on polar bears with the Federal Minister of Science.  Ciaran Woods is one of the student leaders and he presented this research to the Honourable Kristy Duncan.  The students have been working with Dr. Jane Waterman with her WhiskerPrint identification software and have been travelling up to Churchill for the last six years to study polar bears.  The focus of the study is to use this non-invasive identification method to track the bears over the years.  The students can then determine and track the body condition of these bears.  This project is supported and funded through the Universtiy of Manitoba NSERC PromoScience grant.
