The Empowerment Group at Lord Nelson School is composed of Grade 6 students who get together once a month to discuss, investigate and act on how we can help ourselves and others access basic necessities and human rights.
In November the Empowerment Group collected food for Winnipeg Harvest to share with families in need. Lord Nelson students raised a total of 512 pounds of food!
In December, the Empowerment Group hosted the 'We Create Change' campaign. Together, we collected over $850.00. The Empowerment Group was able to buy 20 goats for our adopted village in Ngosuani, Kenya! Goats mean an end to the cycle of poverty: fresh milk to drink and sell, an income to buy medicine and send children to school.
