What Does the Parent Council Do?
The main objectives of the Parent Council are to foster enthusiasm, school spirit and facilitate communication among families, teachers and the community. The Parent Council also supports the school’s fundraising efforts in order to ensure the best supports for our teaching staff, educational programs and environment for our students.
The LRPC is made up of parents, family members, school staff and others who are committed to this idea that children benefit the most from their school experience when families and schools work together in partnership.
It is involved in a number of projects and activities to assist parents and caregivers in helping children achieve their full potential. These include:
Ensuring ongoing communication with the school administration and staff. Fundraising activities and helping the school to obtain funds through grants.
Maintaining Room 3, The Family Place. This room is designated for parents and their children and we welcome and encourage you to use it.
Offering our parents and caregivers educational workshops and information sessions.
Operating a supervised lunch program with full-time and casual spots.
Offering a babysitter training course for Grade 6 students.
Keeping parents informed of School Division policies and decisions that directly affect their children.
Offering community opinion on proposed School Division policies and curriculum (via our South End Advisory Committee.)
Contributing to various school activities. Organizing our annual Family Fun Barbecue in June. Fundraising LRPC raises money for a number of school initiatives. Some of these include: Books for classrooms, Grade 5 field trips to Festival du Voyageur, other classroom field trips, Babysitters Course for Grade 6 students, Coffee and tea for Room 3, the Family Place, The Grade 6 Farewell, and Time Capsule. The more money we raise, the more projects and activities we can fund.
Lord Roberts Parent Council meetings are open to all Lord Roberts parents, guardians, and interested community members. The meetings are fairly informal, but do follow a preset agenda. If you would like to add something to the agenda, please call Robin at 477-1760 or email at email@example.com by the Sunday before the meetings. The meetings are about 60 to 90 minutes long with coffee and snacks served at the end. There is free child care in Room 3, The Family Place. We require notice if you are bringing a child under the age of 2, so we can schedule more babysitters.
