Arts Appreciation


The Arts Appreciation Program promotes the enjoyment  and appreciation of music, dance, drama, and the visual arts,                        through a broad range of activities and mediums. 

This means that everyone may achieve success in one or more of these areas.

In Kindergarten and Grades 1 and 2, your child learns one or more of the arts: dance, drama, music and/or visual arts.

  • Your child learns and uses different elements and techniques of dance, drama, music, and/or visual arts(Language and Tools)
  • Your child creates and shares dance, drama, music, and/or visual arts works (Creative Expression)
  • Your child explores the roles, purposes, and meanings of the arts in their own lives, in the lives of their families, and in their communities (Understanding the Arts in Context)
  • Your child learns to question, analyze, and share personal ideas about dance, drama, music, and/or visual arts works. (Valuing the Arts)

In Grade 3 and Grade 4, your child learns one or more of the arts education subject areas: dance, drama, music, and/or visual arts.  

  • Your child learns and uses different elements, concepts, and techniques of dance, drama, music, and/or visual arts (Language and Tools)
  • Your child thinks of and uses different ideas to create and share dance, drama, music, and/or visual arts works (Creative Expression)
  • Your child learns about different art forms, styles, and traditions. He or she explores the roles, purposes, and meanings of the arts in their own lives, in the lives of their families, communities, and in different cultures around the world (Understanding the Arts in Context)
  • Your child learns to question, analyze, and share personal ideas about dance, drama, music, and/or visual arts works (Valuing the Arts)

In Grades 5 and 6, your child learns one or more of the arts: Dance, Drama, Music, and/or Visual Arts.

Your child learns and uses different elements, concepts, and techniques of dance, drama, music, and/or visual arts (Language and Tools).

Your child thinks of and organizes different ideas to create and share dance, drama, music, and/or visual arts works (Creative Expression).

Your child explores different art forms, styles, and traditions from various times. He or she explores the roles, purposes, influence, and meanings of the arts in their own lives, in the lives of their families, communities, and in different cultures around the world. (Understanding the Arts in Context)

Your child learns to question, analyze, reflect, and share personal ideas about dance, drama, music, and/or visual arts works (Valuing the Arts)
