Machray school runs
music programming for students in Kindergarten to Grade 6. Students work toward
performances including a winter concert in December, choral performances at the
Millennium Library as part of the Sounds of the Season Concert Series and a
celebration of learning at Jelly Bean Field Day in June.
classroom lessons focus on not just the development of musical literacy but
also the development of general literacy. Students take part in a variety of
activities that include cross curricular links in mathematics, reading,
writing, social studies and science.
focus on students taking part in movement activities and games that focus on
musical literacy and performance skills. Students also take part in
instrumental based activities. Students in kindergarten to grade 3 play
instruments such as bells, boomwhackers, non pitched percussion instruments and
xylophones. Students in grade 4-6 play bells, recorders, non pitched percussion
and xylophones. All kindergarten to grade 6 students get to take part in
lessons on Djembe's for two weeks per year.
