In March our class learned about shadows. Students explored at various shadow centers and experimented with different light sources including natural light from our windows, flashlights, and desk lamps. Students enjoyed making shadows with their bodies and hands, and even discovered that our toys have shadows too! Some students discovered objects that have colourful shadows.
We opened up a shadow puppet making center where studnets enjoyed making their own shadow puppets. They used fine motor skills to trace or draw their own images onto black paper, cut them out with scissors, and measure a piece of tape to stick a popsicle stick onto the back. Once their shadow puppets were complete, students loved using them behind our shadow screen. Lots of language-rich storytelling took place!
We had a lot of fun exploring and discovering shadows!
