March News

Welcome to spring! As weather watchers, we were really impressed with the drastic improvement in temperature between the end of February and the middle of March. We are happy to see the nice weather returning but all agree that it was a pretty good winter.

We finished our novel Hatchet and viewed the movie based on the book, A Cry in the Wild. We acted as critics and did our own reviews of both the book and the movie. We don’t want to spoil it for anyone but there are a lot of differences. We all agree that the book has far more detail and tells a more interesting story than the movie, but the movie was still fun to watch.

This month we are learning about “Truth” from the Seven Teachings. The turtle represents truth. We enjoyed a book, “Thirteen Moons on Turtles Back,” which reflects on thirteen unique seasonal cycles of the moon and how they are represented on the back of a turtle’s shell. In Social Studies we are learning about the ancient Mayan, Incan, and Aztec cultures. Here are some interesting facts. The Aztec people frequently had steam rooms attached to their houses. The Mayans had actual pyramids that acted as calendars. The Incas built roads that have lasted for thousands of years. Modern road builders could learn a lesson from them!
