The days are longer but the
school days are flying by! Everyone seems to have so much more energy now that
Spring has arrived. That energy is also in our classroom and students continue
to work hard and play hard. We have had some enjoyable experiences recently.
Last month we went to see the film, Tough Guys, at the Freeze Frame Film
Festival. It was a Norwegian film about bullying and we had to read the English
subtitles. We felt it was a refreshing approach to a very important topic. I
think everyone rated it 3 out of 3 stars!! While there we got to examine
production equipment used by movie makers. Some tried out green screen
technology while others cut records made out of plastic plates.
trip was to Bird’s Hill Park where we enjoyed a sleigh ride, hotdog roast and
bonfire on a very snowy day. It was beautiful. A couple of the dogs from the
farm played with us and hung out with us for most of the day.
Speaking of hot
dogs, we had another great lunch provided by our favourite volunteer, Hot Dog
John. He makes the best hot dogs
and serves them to us every month, along with all the fixings. He brings the
regular stuff but also adds sauerkraut, onions, cheese whiz, chips, chocolate
milk and homemade cookies! Now you know why he’s our favourite!!
Teacher Student Conferences many of our parents were able to hear about our successes
this year. There was a lot of progress to celebrate.
We recently purchased many
new books thanks to a grant from Chapters. The students were happy to get into
them and are thankful for the gift.
In Social Studies we have been studying
what it might have been like to live in the 16th century in a
fur-trading fort near Quebec. We made a number of forts. One fort was a group
effort with everyone in the class adding features. One student decided to build
his fort using Minecraft. It turned out awesome and has all the features you
would expect in such a fort. It has an ice room, storage facility, barracks,
guard towers, a kitchen, animal pen and garden, just to name a few things.
is all for now. See you in May!
