They say time moves fast when you are having fun and that is true for us! As we watch the seasons changing around us we are also studying the science of how Earth moves within our solar system and how that causes our seasonal changes. We have learned the names, and several features, of each planet in our solar system. We have learned about the 8 phases of our moon and wonder what it would be like to stand on Jupiter or Saturn and witness their moons, as they each have over 60!
In Social Studies we have read several theories on how humans got to North America, including the Bering Land Bridge Theory. It suggests people and animals migrated across visible land that eventually disappeared as waters rose after the last ice age. We continue to work hard in math and have recently been developing our understanding of place value up to the billions. It is fun working with such big numbers!
We continue to work on our writing and reading skills. Sometimes we work on our own, other times with friends. Currently, during "Teacher Read", we are reading a book called, Freak The Mighty. It is a pretty cool book that is teaching us about bullying and empathy. We're gearing up for Hallowe'en so we are also enjoying some Manitoba Ghost Stories!
Each week we have music therapy. We really enjoy it and are in the process of recording some sound effects for our own Hallowe'en tune. We have had visits from Mr. Sova who has taught us how to Hoop Dance and has also taught us some Judo. We recently had a field trip to the Fire Station by Polo Park. We got to explore and learn about the ladder and pump trucks and even got a chance to operate a fire hose. It was lots of fun and we learned about fire safety.
See you next month.
