Early Childhood Behaviour Treatment Program

This classroom serves students in Kindergarten and Grade One who have severe emotional or behavioural disorders. In addition to pre-academic or academic instruction, the students require instruction in social skills, support for their emotional development, and support in general preschool development.

The classroom model is self-contained with some intergration into regular education classes whenever appropriate.

Goals:
To maximize the students' potential in the following areas:
    • communication skills
    • academics
    • social skills
    • school coping skills
    • emotional stability
through an individual educational program and intensive staffing supports.

To prepare the students to transition into regular education classes or other special education classrooms.

Referral:
Students are referred to the Special Education Department by schools completing the referral form or if the child is registering in school for the first time, through the Early Childhood Transition Network. Referrals document the student's severe behaviour disorder and developmental needs. Parent permission is required.
