Room 4 N/K
It has been a busy year in Room 4 and it has flown by so quickly!
We are excited that the weather has warmed up a bit so that we can go
outside to enjoy the fresh air. As we are encouraging the children to get
dressed by themselves, it would be helpful if your child wore shoes and a
jacket/sweater that they can put on by themselves. During the month of
May, the children will begin to go outside for recess with the rest of the
In April, we finished learning the letters of the alphabet, as well as our
theme on Nutrition. The students learned about which foods are healthy
and unhealthy to eat. The children worked in groups and made posters
using pictures from flyers of both healthy and unhealthy foods. They had
lots of fun working on these posters together! We also learned about the
different food groups, and focused on fruits and vegetables. We did
several activities and finished off the theme doing an art project where
the children stamped with different fruits and vegetables.
In May, we will be beginning a theme on Nursery Rhymes. Rhyming is a
very important early literacy skill for children. “Experts in literacy and
child development have discovered that if children know 8 Nursery
Rhymes by heart, they are usually among the best readers by the time
they are 8.” (Fox, M. 2001, Reading Magic. San Diego, CA: Harcourt).
We will also begin a theme on the farm in preparation for our field trip to
Six Pines Farm on Thursday, June 1. This will be an all day field trip for
all of the Nursery and Kindergarten children.
