Principal Sparling School’s music room is a place filled with laughter, dancing, music making and community. Together as a school, we emphasize bringing out each other’s talents and successes. During the year, students will become immersed in a variety of musical concepts through exploration, instrument playing and movement. Students are engaged in cultural music, music from the past and music we hear in today’s society.
Starting in Kindergarten, students will begin learning how to play non- pitched percussion instruments and the xylophone. Once students are in grade three, they all are given the opportunity to practice recorder. Students are encouraged to practice at school and at home, helping them earn all their recorder karate belts.
Principal Sparling School also offers choir programs for all students. In choir, students learn, sing and play a variety of songs. Choir class is used to encourage and teach proper singing technique. These choirs often perform at music festivals and our Christmas Concert every year.
Finally, the music room offers many different clubs for our students to join. These are not mandatory; however, they offer students the opportunity to learn new and exciting material. Some of these clubs include: dance club, hand bell choir, cup song club and recorder club.
We look forward to seeing you in the music room! Please feel free to come sing, laugh, dance and play with us!
