Queenston School Science Fair
Each year, Queenston School invites the grade 4, 5 & 6 students to participate in our Science Fair. Student participation is strictly on a volunteer basis. The school hosts an introduction and information session for all interested students and this year's session was held, Tuesday, January 16, 2018 in the library from 1:00 – 1:45 pm.
Students received an information package including where to look to discover what Science fair project you might like to try, both in hard copy and links to electronic sites, timelines for ensuring you can complete your project, information to complete the display backboards, a judging sheet and many other pieces of information to make this a successful adventure.
The bulk of the project work is completed at home with assistance from their parents. This Science fair model has been successful in the past and a positive experience for both the student and their parents. The school will meet with the students a number of times during the six-week process to assist them in keeping on track and headed in the right direction.
The Queenston School Science Fair will take place on the morning of Thursday, March 1, 2018 and judging takes place in the downstairs multipurpose room. Projects are to be set up in the afternoon and evening of the day before. Each student will receive a participation ribbon and judges will give out first, second and third place ribbons for each grade, as well as gold, silver and bronze medals for overall placements.
Some of the participants will be asked to attend the Winnipeg Schools' Science Fair (WSSF) hosted by the Winnipeg School Division. Judging for this event will take place on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, with the awards ceremony on Saturday, April 14, 2018 The WSSF takes place at the Brodie Centre, 727 McDermot Avenue, U of M Campus, Health Sciences Centre.
Students moving on to the WSSF will be determined by the judges and Queenston Science Fair committee. Should your child be asked to attend the Winnipeg Schools' Science Fair, the school will provide all the necessary information.
