RALPH BROWN MUSIC PROGRAM OVERVIEW 2016-2017
In music class the students of all grades have the opportunity to:
- Acquire a variety of musical skills through singing, playing, moving, playing instruments, listening to different kinds of music and composing their own.
- Develop their creativity and self-expression in a supportive and fun environment.
- Develop social skills and confidence while creating music and performing alone and together with classmates in an ensemble setting.
All primary students participate in a choir which introduces new songs sung in an ensemble setting, and performance opportunities. Every year the students are preparing for and perform in the Winter Concert and variety of school events. Assessment is done through observation and participation in class.
Gr. 3-8 students participate in the Recorder Karate Program. This is the dynamic and fun way of learning to play recorder that is based on motivational incentives. A special grading system is followed, where students earn belts as they advance through the various levels.
Also intermediate students have the opportunity to enrich their musical experience by attending the Winnipeg Symphony Concert in the spring. Assessment is done through observation, class participation, tests.
Students in the English - Ukrainian Bilingual Program prepare different programs for cultural events within and outside the school.
