Welcome and Bienvenue to École Robert H. Smith School for the 2017-2018 school year. Our school has a proud history of academic excellence as well as offering a safe and warm environment where students can learn and grow. We believe in strong school and family connections and truly believe in our motto "It takes a community to educate a child".
Our school is an inclusive school where all children are supported and encouraged to attain their goals academically, physically, creatively and socially. To that end, we offer excellent academic and extracurricular programs in both the English and French languages, a comprehensive athletics program, before, during and after school clubs, all of which meet the needs of all of our students.
Our school really believes in working "with" our community, parents, staff and most important "the children". If and when you come to our school, you will see a school that is; engaging, encouraging, inclusive, inviting, respectful, stimulating, sustainable and most important always welcoming. You will see that most definitely in all the kids!
We are a Dr. Jane Goodall of Canada Roots and Shoots School and have been working with the Jane Goodall Institute for the last two years Dr. Jane is asking our school and others to help her create a generation of Janes; difference makers who have compassion, knowledge and skills to live sustainably and create meaningful change. Roots and Shoots Programs are active in over 130 countries worldwide and prepares our youth to design and implement sustainability action projects that will transform their communities into a place where people, animals and the environment thrive!
This year our theme is D.A.N.C.E. which supports our school priorities this year. D.A.N.C.E. is an acronym for five essential process skills that learners use throughout their lives. Discover, Ask, Nurture, Create, Educate.
This year our school priorities are:
1. Develop within students an increased knowledge, attitude and behaviour of the three pillars E.S.D. so that students may integrate these practices in to their daily lives and their learning.
2. Students will develop an increased awareness of the seven scientific processes skills (classifying, observing, measuring, inferring, predicting, communicating, experimenting) in order to apply
3. Students will develop a greater depth of understanding related to the principles of numeracy and literacy in order to independently engage in innovative learning.
Please explore our site and see what our school has to offer and please feel free to contact us at any time if you have any questions about our exceptional school or to set up a visit.
We feel very fortunate to be a part of this inviting and supportive community and we know that you will too.
