Sew Moccasins, Nuture Hope - April 2018

Select grade 10 English students from St. John's High School, along with their teacher Ms. Enns, attended the event Sew Moccasins, Nurture Hope at the Thunderbird House on Monday, April 16.

The event was meant as an opportunity for Indigenous and non-Indigenous people to build relationships, and to shed light on the ongoing issues facing many Indigenous people in Manitoba, specifically the involvement of families with CFS.

With love, participants made baby moccasins, which will be gifted to Indigenous mothers for their newborn babies who, in some cases, are immediately apprehended by CFS.

This experience was enlightening in so many ways, and really brought to life the after effects of the residential school system on our Indigenous community. It was also a great experience for the students to meet and talk with other community members to broaden their perspective on reconciliation.
